Woolcombe’s Plots is a series of images consisting of brand new houses that have been completed but remain empty. Through long exposure on large format film Woolcombe has created a striking and poignant body of work. His series questions the integrity of the traditional family image and the emotions associated with the home. These houses which are at the forefront of Woolcombe’s project have been denied the stories and the memories of family life and as a result allow room for the stories and memories of its viewer to embellish their meaning.
The marketing of these estates, of playing to the aspirations of potential buyers to create a perfect family home, is also questioned here. Are these aspirations for the perfect lifestyle, family or home ever achievable? Can this perfect lifestyle even actually exists?
